SEIRYU THEATER

WOYZECK VERSION FUKUSHIMA

Woyzeck as an employee of TEPCO dressed in protective clothing – a sharp contrast to the men in swanky black and white suits. Was the nuclear disaster in Fukushima really that long ago? Today’s media pays it little attention. But the Seiryu Theater created this production the year of the catastrophe in a commendable attempt to express the inexpressible. There are, of course, passages where words are simply not enough; in these cases the piano takes over. In other spots, the production relies on written words that make TEPCO-WOYZECK seem like a cardboard cut-out – in a game whose rules are made by others. Bertolt Brecht would prick up his ears.
