It goes without saying that the hosts have prepared everything for this evening. A somewhat different attempt to get to know the city’s reluctant son – and even if we share a little gossip about him in his absence, we do so with no disrespect. Effortlessly, we skim over the last two centuries to discuss the guests’ memories of this person and their experiences with his works. When do we feel close to Büchner, when do we distance ourselves from him? If the conversation threatens to get lost in too many details, everyone may join in the collective toast.
